Societal Challenge 4: Smart, green and integrated transport

This Challenge aims to boost the competitiveness of the European transport industries and achieve a European transport system that is resource-efficient, climate-and-environmentally-friendly, safe and seamless for the benefit of all citizens, the economy and society.

Projects will help transport become more resource efficent and environmentally-friendly, by making aircraft, vehicles and vessels cleaner and quieter. Transport and mobility in urban areas are also addressed.

This Challenge focuses on four targets:

  • Resource efficient transport respecting the environment. Aircraft, vehicles and ships will run in a cleaner and quieter way.
  • Better mobility, less congestion, more safety and security. Traffic congestion will be reduced, improving the mobility of both people and goods. New concepts for logistics, fewer accidents and better security are part of this objective
  • Global leadership for the European transport industry. Transport manufacturing industries in Europe will be supported to become more competitive and performant.
  • Socio-economic and behavioural research. This will feed into better policy making needed to promote innovation and face future challenges.
